As a result, Huawei’s flagship Mate 30 was released without Google Play Services. It ran on an open-source version of Android-based on Huawei’s EMUI 10. As expected, the phone suffered a bit in sales. But now it looks like the problem could ease if the trade restrictions are lifted.

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross confirmed in an interview with Bloomberg that they are on phase one of a trade deal between the US and China. After this, US companies will be allowed to work with Huawei. The govt received 260 license requests from US companies to work with Huawei, but Ross confirmed that not all will be approved.

Although Huawei phones would be able to run Google Play services. They won’t come with Google’s proprietary services such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Play, etc. Hence, this is still a big problem for Huawei. Plus, big tech companies like Microsoft, Qualcomm, etc. are still not clear on whether they would be allowed to do business or not.
British company ARM Technologies still working with Huawei
British Based ARM technologies which supply chips to Huawei. Upon which Huawei’s Kirin 990 mobile processors and Ascend 910 AI chipset are built upon. ARM is of UK origin and doesn’t have to comply with the US ban. Hence, things are not all bad for Huawei.
