A report related to the same aspect by Bloomberg suggested that Apple has already started working on the backend, and the company even has dedicated resources for the same. The phenomenon is being dubbed as a major push in the direction of opening up key elements of Apple platforms. As soon as the change is implemented, iPhone users will have access to install and run third-party software on their iPhones and iPads without relying on the Apple App Store. The team working on the project is headed by Andreas Wendker, the software engineering vice president at Apple. He directly reports to Craig Federighi. Apart from that, the services team at Apple is also involved in the development of the project.

Other major Apple updates

Apple has recently rolled out iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2. iOS 16.2 has unveiled a new application named Freeform that allows users to work creatively with colleagues or friends on Mac, iPhone and iPad. It offers a flexible canvas that allows the user to add images, stickies, files, etc. Keeping that aside, the new lock screen update lets the user hide wallpaper or notifications when the device is in the always-on mode. The SharePlay support in the Game Center of iPhones will allow the users to play games with people who are on FaceTime with them. The activity widget will let the user see what their friends are playing and achieving in the games. There is a lot more to mention regarding the changes that have been made with the official update. However, one thing we can say is that the update seems quite engaging and it will surely improve the user experience.
